Iberdrola and Fundación ASPRIMA, an entity linked to the Madrid Association of Property Developers (ASPRIMA), have entered into a partnership to promote electrification and energy efficiency across new residential developments in Spain.
The agreement, signed by Jorge Ginés, Director General of ASPRIMA, and Luis Buil, Head of Smart Solutions at Iberdrola, will establish a shared knowledge platform focused on showcasing real-life success stories and innovative solutions that can improve the energy performance of residential projects.
Iberdrola has been working with property developers since 2022 to integrate solutions including photovoltaic self-consumption, aerothermal heating, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, energy supply and other value-added services into new developments.
According to the companies, integrating these solutions from the design stage can help developers anticipate the requirements of Spain’s Technical Building Code (CTE), while enabling residential projects to achieve high energy efficiency ratings, including an A rating.
The approach can also facilitate access to green financing, including green mortgages, as well as local tax incentives such as reductions in property and construction taxes, depending on the municipality.
The partnership marks a new phase of collaboration between the energy sector and Madrid’s property development industry, with a focus on sharing practical solutions and successful projects that can contribute to raising standards across Spain’s residential market.
“The real estate sector cannot look the other way when it comes to electrification, a solution that not only promotes sustainability and decarbonisation but also improves the energy efficiency of our projects. Having Iberdrola as a partner gives us access to knowledge that is essential for our members to lead this transformation from the project design stage”, said Jorge Ginés, Director General of ASPRIMA.
Luis Buil, Head of Smart Solutions at Iberdrola, noted property developers have “an essential role in shaping the building stock of the future”.
“This collaboration allows us to bring the tools and knowledge needed to decisively advance electrification directly to those who build our cities, with the aim of strengthening the country’s security of supply and contributing to citizens’ economic savings, while reducing emissions and improving air quality in our communities”, he said.
