Huelva City Council has given initial approval to the Urban Redevelopment Plan for the former Seminary site, paving the way for the development of 330 protected homes on a 18,628 sqm site.
The plan, promoted by the Diocese of Huelva, seeks to convert part of the land currently designated for religious use into residential use for protected housing. The scheme envisages up to 41,800 sqm of residential buildable area, organised across six residential blocks, alongside public open spaces and internal roads.
The approval is part of the municipality’s strategy to increase the supply of housing by bringing underused land into development and promoting affordable residential projects.
Alongside the Seminary development, the City Council has granted planning permission for 100 additional homes across two private residential schemes: 58 homes on Calle Trigueros and a further 42 homes on a site fronting Calle Córdoba and Avenida San Antonio.
The approvals come as Huelva seeks to expand its residential stock in anticipation of economic and industrial investment in the city and surrounding area, with the local authority highlighting housing supply as a key priority for attracting and retaining residents.
