As part of a diversification of its strategy, the Portuguese Grupo Mais is set to shift its focus away from the residential market under the Build-to-Sell (BTS) model, announcing that it has more than 700 new homes in its portfolio under the BTR model. Spread across various parts of the country, mainly in the Central and Southern regions, this pipeline includes projects for student accommodation and housing for professionals.
In a statement, the group explains that “rental accommodation represents an opportunity to develop housing solutions tailored to the needs of different target groups”.
Without disclosing the total planned investment or the range of rents to be charged, Grupo Mais has indicated that it is assessing opportunities for expansion in various parts of the country, in addition to those where it already operates.
In the case of BTR, the planned offering will be aimed primarily at university students and professionals who have moved away from home and need accommodation in the areas where they study and work. Proximity to facilities such as universities, hospitals and employment and service hubs is one of the criteria used when selecting new locations.
Headquartered in Fátima, the Mais Group began operations in 2015 in the estate agency sector, later expanding into construction and property development. It currently operates in the residential and hospitality sectors, with several projects already completed or under development in Montijo, Fátima, Santarém, Ourém, Leiria, Setúbal and Nazaré.
