Deutsche Bank España will completely refurbish its headquarters at 18 Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid. The refurbishment will affect the 11,000 sqm that the bank occupies in this building and will be carried out in different phases, with the aim of minimising the impact on the daily activity of the more than 750 employees who work in the building, as well as the customers who regularly visit the office.
Work will begin in the first half of 2025 and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. The main improvements include the expansion of the number of workstations, the renovation of common areas, meeting rooms and customer service areas.
As part of this transaction, Deutsche Bank has renewed its lease with Mimeisa, the building's owner and a specialist in prime urban investment and asset management, until 2032, with an option to extend until 2040. This renovation is part of the bank's strategy to adapt to new ways of working, strengthen personalised customer service and maintain its position as a benchmark foreign bank in the corporate, business and wealth management segments.
The refurbishment project, which will be carried out by CBRE, will transform the building into a more modern, efficient and sustainable space. The planned interventions include the creation of new collaborative work areas, meeting areas and the integration of the interior garden for both internal and external use.
The main branch for private customers will also be renovated, with the aim of turning it into a flagship office in the capital. This new office will have a specific space for quick transactions, meeting rooms of different sizes and the usual cash services, aimed at improving service for more complex operations.
María González-Adalid, Chief Operating Officer of Deutsche Bank España, underlined the strategic importance of the project: ‘Deutsche Bank will have one of the best office buildings in the centre of Madrid at Castellana 18, while maintaining the bank's emblematic headquarters. We are delighted to have CBRE as a partner for this refurbishment, as they have extensive experience in refurbishing spaces that are still useful’.
The refurbishment is part of the bank's commitment to sustainability and technology, and has been designed with the aim of obtaining WELL (WELL Building Standard) certification, aimed at guaranteeing the positive impact of spaces on people's health and well-being. Among the criteria included in the design are natural lighting, ventilation and air renewal, acoustic insulation and thermal comfort. In addition, there will be spaces for wellness activities, multi-purpose rooms and the changing rooms will be renovated in order to promote the physical health of the team.
