With this increase, the number of mortgages has risen for six consecutive months, and is 10 points higher than December 2016 (+6,9%).
The average amount of house mortgages in January was 112,844 euros, an annual increase of 6,4%.
The communities with the largest number of mortgages in January were Andalucía and the Comunidad de Madrid (both 5,018) and Cataluña (4,258). The communities with the greatest rates of annual price increase were the Principado de Asturias (37.6%), Illes Balears (34.6%) and Cantabria (32.0%). The communities with the largest total borrowing totals for mortgages were the Comunidad de Madrid (773.6 million euros), Cataluña (571.2 million) and Andalucía (453.2 million).
