Sales in shopping centres and retail parks grow by 6.1% and footfall by 3.4%

Spanish shopping centres and retail parks recorded a 6.1% increase in sales during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Spanish Association of Shopping Centres and Retail Parks (AECC). Footfall increased by 3.4% in the first six months of the year.

By segment, catering saw the largest increase in turnover, with 9.9%, followed by fashion and accessories, with 6%, and home furnishings, with 4.2%.

The sector currently has 589 shopping centres and retail parks in Spain. Ten new spaces are scheduled to open before the end of the year: six in Andalusia (Entrenasas and OMO Utrera Park in Seville, Alhaurín and Marbella Centre in Malaga, Victoria Park in Jaén and Parque Comercial Trocadero in Cadiz), one in the Valencian Community (Paseo del Mar in Alicante), one in Asturias (Parque Comercial Gijón), one in the Region of Murcia (Parque Comercial y de Ocio Los Olivos in Cieza) and one in the Canary Islands (Leroy Merlin Phygital & Co in Tenerife).

These openings will add 126,100 sqm of gross leasable area (to the current 16,856,256 sqm). In terms of employment, the sector generates 885,613 jobs and accounts for 32,935 establishments.

In the first half of the year, the volume of transactions reached €1.1 billion in 20 operations. These include the Bonaire (Valencia), Espacio Mediterráneo (Murcia), Ballonti (Basque Country), Alcalá Magna, Intu Xanadú and Caleido (Madrid) shopping centres.

21st Spanish Congress of Shopping Centres and Retail Parks

Under the slogan Creating Value, the AECC is holding the 21st Spanish Congress of Shopping Centres and Retail Parks today and tomorrow at UZalacaín La Finca (Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid), bringing together more than 1,400 professionals from the sector and reaching a record number of registrations.

The programme includes lectures by Ignacio de la Torre (Arcano Partners), Javier Goyeneche (Ecoalf) and Giuseppe Stigliano, as well as presentations by Manuel Muñiz (IE University) and Vicente Vallés (Antena 3 Noticias). There will also be a round table with representatives from native digital brands such as Blue Banana and Singularu.

The event includes a trade fair with developers, investors and consultants, and will conclude with the presentation of the AECC 2025 Awards, for which 101 entries have been submitted.
