Castellana Properties, first socimi to join GBCe
EL FARO SHOPPING CENTRE, OWNED BY CASTELLANA, LOCATED IN BADAJOZ.

Castellana Properties, a listed company specialising in the retail sector, has formalised its membership of the Green Building Council España (GBCe), a leading organisation in the promotion of sustainability in the construction sector, which forms part of the global network of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), present in more than 70 countries. GBCe, recognised for its management of VERDE and DGNB certifications at national level, is positioned as one of the main actors in the dialogue with public administrations, both in Spain and in Europe, on sustainability issues.

The purpose of this association is to support and encourage progress towards sustainable construction through the development of practices and tools to assess and verify the environmental performance of buildings throughout their life cycle. As a new member of GBCe, Castellana Properties will not only offer its experience and knowledge as a socimi specialising in the retail sector, but will also be actively involved in the initiatives led by GBCe.

In this framework, GBCe has created, in collaboration with councils in other countries, a platform for the assessment and verification of the European Taxonomy of Sustainable Activities. This tool will be continuously updated as new technical criteria are published. Castellana Properties, committed to sustainability and transparency, will evaluate the use of this platform in the preparation of its annual monitoring report in relation to all its assets.

Additionally, the company will have the opportunity to participate in research projects at both national and European level, driven by GBCe with funding from public and private sources. The projects will address a range of objectives, from collecting performance data to test the decarbonisation of the sector to assessing the impact of ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria on asset valuation.

According to Jorge Orondo, senior energy & utilities manager at Castellana Properties, "by joining GBCe we are once again demonstrating our clear commitment to sustainability, as we support the application of evaluation criteria in our assets, such as those of the European Union Taxonomy. In fact, at Castellana Properties we see the need for initiatives that improve the quantification of the environmental impacts of building and, for this reason, we will participate in the projects carried out by GBCe, with which we hope to contribute to the decarbonisation of our sector".
