Madrid City Council draws lots for 246 affordable rental flats

On 19 March, Madrid City Council is holding a draw for 246 affordable rental homes in 13 districts of the city, with the largest number of units in the area of El Cañaveral (Vicálvaro). This is the second draw that the Empresa Municipal de la Vivienda y Suelo de Madrid (EMVS Madrid) is organising this year and includes 162 new affordable rental homes in the Cañaveral 1 and Cañaveral 2 developments.

The delegate of the Housing Policy Area and president of EMVS Madrid, Álvaro González, said: "This is just one more example of this City Council's compliance with its housing policies". He stressed that "these flats will be mainly for young people and families with young children, which will facilitate their emancipation and enable them to embark on an independent life project". It is stressed that 80% of the flats will be allocated to these groups.

The draw will take place at the EMVS Madrid headquarters and can be followed online through the entity's website. Those registered in the Permanent Register of Housing Applicants will have the opportunity to opt for one of the 246 homes, whose rents will not exceed 30% of the family unit's income, varying between 200 and 600 euros per month, and will include two, three and four-bedroom flats with a garage space.

This draw follows the allocation of 176 properties in January, distributed in 10 districts of Madrid. Now, the 246 homes are distributed in 13 districts, with 66% located in Vicálvaro due to the new Cañaveral developments.

In addition, it is highlighted that the Cañaveral 1 and Cañaveral 2 homes have been built with a sustainable and efficient approach, all obtaining energy certification A, and include aerothermal and underfloor heating and cooling systems. In the context of the City Council's investment in the urban development of Vicálvaro, 190 million euros have been allocated to build 1,212 affordable rental homes in El Cañaveral, as part of the capital's expansion into new urban developments.

EMVS Madrid currently manages more than 8,235 affordable rental homes and is developing 2,380 new homes in 28 developments, all in various stages of construction and tendering.
