Lagoom Living will open the application period on 8 June for 91 homes under the general scheme for affordable rental housing on plot R15 of Distrito Universidad, in Málaga. The application period will remain open until 26 June.
The development forms part of a residential scheme comprising 530 affordable rental homes, driven by a public-private partnership between the Spanish Government, the Regional Government of Andalusiaand Málaga City Council. The project is funded by the European Union’s Next Generation programme and financing from the Official Credit Institute (ICO) through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The opening of the allocation process for plot R15 follows the launch, in March, of the first phase of the project, corresponding to plot R3, which received over 7,000 applications, according to information provided by the company.
The new development will consist of two residential blocks, each with a ground floor and five storeys. The 91 homes will have two bedrooms, a usable floor area of approximately 70 sqm, and an allocated parking space and storage room. Five of them will be adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The expected rents, including a garage and storage room, will range from €508 to €512 per month. The complex will feature a swimming pool, landscaped areas, children’s play areas and an outdoor gym, as well as seven retail units and 46 additional garage spaces.
Distrito Universidad has an A energy rating and BREEAM certification. The development is designed as a social housing rental scheme linked to residential demand in Málaga, in a context marked by difficulties in accessing housing in the city.
The allocation process will be carried out in coordination with the Municipal Housing Institute (IMV), which will manage registrations, the drawing up of lists, the selection system via lottery and the period for submitting appeals. The announcement will be published in the Official Provincial Gazette on 29 May, while the terms and conditions and documentation will be available from 1 June on the IMV and Lagoom Living websites.
To be eligible for the properties, applicants must have submitted an application for registration in the Malaga Municipal Register of Social Housing Applicants and provide proof of at least one year’s residence in the municipality. They must also meet the financial requirements for the development, including a maximum income limit of 2.5 times the IPREM, a minimum annual income of €23,500 and a maximum housing cost-to-income ratio of 30%.
