Funchal City Council has approved its revised Local Housing Strategy for the 2026-29 period, which foresees an investment of €40 million to deliver around 300 homes.
The strategy was approved at a municipal council meeting, alongside the fifth budget amendment. According to Jorge Carvalho, the municipality’s President, the amendment follows the approval of several applications for EU funding, resulting in additional public investment in the city and for its residents.
Jorge Carvalho said the additional revenue, in some cases amounting to millions of euros, will free up funds for other investments.
The revised Local Housing Strategy has been adapted to the municipality’s current circumstances and is also intended to enable Funchal City Council to access European funds for housing construction.
