Chinese electronics and smartphone manufacturing giant Xiaomi is to move its Spanish headquarters to Torre Cristal, a skyscraper owned by Mutua Madrileña that forms part of the Cuatro Torres business complex in Madrid, to the north of the capital.
With 60,000 square metres distributed over 52 floors, Torre de Cristal is the tallest skyscraper in Spain, at 249 metres. Among its tenants are KPMG, which occupies the top third of the building (17 floors), SegurCaixa Adeslas, Llaollao, Markel, Mira Mira Jewelry, Gesternova, Mastercard, Volkswagen and Regus. The building has an A rating for energy efficiency and its energy consumption is one third of that of a typical office building in Madrid.
Xiaomi Spain will occupy the 29th floor of Torre de Cristal, with a surface area of more than 1,300 square metres. This move will mean that, from February, more than 120 company employees will start working in the new offices. Previously, Xiaomi España operated in Calle Orense, in the Azca financial district.
Borja Gómez Carillo, general manager of Xiaomi Iberia, says the move responds to Xiaomi's ‘strong growth and strategic expansion’ in Spain and consolidates its commitment to the local market. ‘The decision reflects Xiaomi's goal of aligning itself with the highest standards in efficiency, technology and sustainability, strengthening its position as a leader in the technology industry,’ he adds. In addition to these offices in Madrid, the only ones of the group in Spain, Xiaomi is present in the main markets of Western Europe, with offices in countries such as Germany, France and Italy.
