The HLA Hospital Group has opened its first clinic in Barcelona. HLA Clínica Internacional Barcelona is a healthcare centre with more than 5,500 square metres, four state-of-the-art operating theatres, more than thirty specialities, and the latest advances and technology for diagnosis and treatment. The HLA Group has invested 24.8 million euros in this new clinic, located at Carrer Anglí 38-40, in the centre of Bonanova, the health district of the Catalan capital.
For the construction of this clinic, the HLA Group has completely refurbished an emblematic building of Barcelona's healthcare system, initially built in 1967, with five floors and three basements. The project was directed by the Catalan architect Jordi Romeu. Both the design and the construction of the hospital have been conceived to take advantage of natural resources, thus minimising the impact that the centre's activity may have on the environment.
The use of light and the building's green cladding are some examples of the sustainable architecture used in its construction. Similarly, the clinic has an A energy rating and a green façade whose use has a double effect: on the one hand, it will help to maintain the internal temperature with less need for air conditioning systems; and, on the other, it will offset up to 20% of the building's CO2 emissions thanks to the effect of photosynthesis carried out by the plants on the façade.
In this regard, Valeriano Torres, CEO of the HLA Group, said that "this centre is a clear commitment to the growth and sustainable development of our healthcare network. The expansion in Catalonia will allow us to attend to more patients in a comprehensive manner, as well as to develop specialised units to consolidate our offer in key cities for the growth of the HLA Group".
The Group has been providing healthcare in Catalonia for more than 25 years through the HLA Perpetuo Socorro Clinic and the two centres attached to the hospital, the HLA Lleida Polyclinic and the Guissona Medical Centre. Likewise, the company to which the HLA healthcare network belongs, the Asisa Group, has a presence in Catalonia with a medical centre in Barcelona; a speciality centre in Reus (Tarragona); three Asisa Dental clinics, two in Barcelona and one in Tarragona; as well as two ophthalmology clinics (Oftalvist) in Barcelona and Tarragona.
