Quadrantis Capital, the fund management firm controlled by João Koehler – one of the ‘sharks’ who appeared on the television programme ‘Shark Tank’ in Portugal – has finalised the purchase of the Exponor exhibition centre, located in the municipality of Matosinhos, in Porto.
According to Jornal de Negócios, Insula Capital, the management company of Nexponor which owned the venue, received ten bids – half of which were from foreign buyers – and all exceeded the asking price of €32 million. The company eventually sold Exponor for €40.5 million and the contract is expected to be signed in June.
The exhibition centre, which opened in 1987, covers an area of 180,000 sqm, of which 45,000 sqm are covered, and includes exhibition halls, a conference centre, a service building, a car park with around 2,250 spaces and gardens.
The asset had been in Nexponor’s property portfolio for 13 years. Around six months ago, the property management company submitted a proposal to Matosinhos Council to redevelop and expand Exponor, which includes the creation of a mixed-use development (offices, shops and housing). The project’s Request for Preliminary Information was approved in April 2024.
