Quetta Data Centres, the platform created by Azora in collaboration with Core Tech Capital to develop Edge data centres and Artificial Intelligence-oriented infrastructure, has begun work on its projects in Tres Cantos (Madrid) and Molins de Rei (Barcelona). In Madrid, the planned power capacity has doubled to 20 MW, while the Barcelona development is the company's first project in this location.
These projects are part of Quetta's strategic plan, which envisages the construction of six Edge data centres in Spain and Portugal. All of them will incorporate closed-loop liquid cooling (DLC), net zero water consumption (WUE 0) and a PUE of less than 1.15. The total estimated investment exceeds €450 million.
With the planned expansion in Tres Cantos and the start of construction in Molins de Rei, the projected aggregate power rises to 30 MW, representing 50% of the overall target of 60 MW for this network.
Quetta Data Centres was established in 2024 by Azora and Core Capital Investments with the aim of developing proximity data centres. The platform has a team with more than 25 years of experience in the sector and focuses its activity on the implementation of infrastructures designed to adapt to different operating environments.
Santiago Olivares, Azora's partner responsible for energy, infrastructure and sustainability investments, believes that there is "a clear opportunity in the development of a network of sustainable proximity data centres" and points out that the strategy is based on renewable energy and energy-efficient systems that do not consume water.
Paco González, founding partner of Core Tech Capital and CEO of Quetta, points out that the works in Barcelona and the power expansion in Madrid are part of a network of centres prepared for Artificial Intelligence workloads, equipped with liquid cooling, renewable energy and architectures designed for different customer profiles.
The progress of both projects coincides with a phase of expansion in the data centre sector, driven by demand associated with AI, streaming services, gaming, augmented reality, the Internet of Things and other digital applications.
