The Único Hotels chain has finalised the acquisition of the Palacio de Luces hotel, located in Colunga, Asturias, which was previously owned by CoolRooms Hotels. Financial details have not been disclosed.
The deal represents a significant step in the group’s expansion into northern Spain and consolidates its commitment to unique hotel assets with a strong heritage component.
The acquired property is housed in a historic building dating back to 1580. The complex is set in a natural environment, close to the Sierra del Sueve and the Picos de Europa, which enhances its appeal as a year-round tourist destination. The hotel has 44 rooms, over 13,000 sqm of green spaces, a heated swimming pool, a spa and event venues. It also holds a Michelin Key and is part of the international network Small Luxury Hotels of the World, consolidating its position within the high-end tourism sector.
The project is not limited to a change of ownership, but includes a phased plan to refurbish the property. The company plans to improve the facilities, update the room fittings and enhance the wellness areas, with the aim of establishing the hotel as a ‘destination hotel’ on the Cantabrian coast. The project also involves a restructuring of the dining offering through the Tella restaurant. The chain’s intention is to preserve the essence of the historic building and its integration with the natural surroundings, while enhancing the guest experience.
With this addition, Único Hotels now has seven properties in operation in Spain. Its portfolio includes two hotels in Madrid (Hotel Único and The Principal), one on the Costa Brava (Mas de Torrent), two in Mallorca (Finca Serena and The Lodge), one in Andalusia (Finca La Bobadilla) and now this new property in Asturias. The deal reinforces the company’s strategy of diversifying its geographical presence in destinations with high tourism potential.
