Homargrup plans to invest arround €50 million in the construction of a new high-end hotel and conference complex in the city of Calafell, in Tarragona. The development will be built on the site of the former Louie Vega nightclub, a space that will be completely transformed for its new use.
The initiative involves the creation of a five-star hotel with around 450 rooms, accompanied by a conference and convention centre. In addition, the complex will include a rooftop restaurant, a spa and wellness centre, a small gym and extensive outdoor areas with swimming pools and gardens. The aim is to create a leading tourist destination for both leisure and business tourism.
Calafell Town Council and the development group have signed an agreement based on a future land swap between the council-owned site and the new construction of a cultural centre. As part of this, an Interpretation Centre dedicated to the Iberian world will be built next to the Iberian Citadel of Calafell, with an investment of €2.5 million.
This centre will be developed by the group that owns Aqua Hotel Grup. The space will feature immersive areas to explore Iberian culture, an exhibition gallery displaying archaeological finds, and a visitor shop. The aim is to strengthen the cultural dimension of the destination.
“The new hotel and the Congress Palace will turn us into a top-tier tourist destination, competing with the country's major tourist destinations. It will bring us corporate visitors with high purchasing power, especially from the United States and China, markets where we currently have little presence”, stated Ramon Ferré, Calafell's mayor.
According to project forecasts, the construction and subsequent launch of the complex could generate around 300 jobs. This figure encompasses both direct and indirect jobs linked to the hotel industry, catering and event organisation. The impact on employment is presented as one of the main benefits of the investment.
