The new 24.000 sqm unit is being developed by Cilsa and it will become part of its new 920.000 sqm ZAL Port logistic park in Barcelona. The development is expected to be concluded between October and November.
UPS’s goal with this new unit is to aid the local communities in terms of exporting their products to Europe. «Trade with the E.U. represents 67% of all Spanish exports and the strategic location of this centre within the port of Barcelona, near the El Prat airport and near the French border will encourage local companies to extend their client base [over to other European countries], since the new hub will make transnational sales as simple as local ones», explained Elisabeth Rodríguez general director for Spain and Portugal at UPS in an interview to newspaper Cinco Días.
For UPS this is «one of the largest investments ever made by us in Spain». It should be noted that the American company already owns a total of 22 assets in this country.
ZAL Port: more than €150M invested
Last April Cilsa announced the development of new units within the new ZAL Port logistic centre. The construction of these new warehouses alone represented a total investment of 150 million euro. With this operation, UPS joins the centre’s other occupants such as Agility and Lidl.
For ZAL Port’s CEO Alfonso Martínez «with the UPS’s incorporation into our portfolio, ZAL Port will become the most important logistic development in Southern Europe, concentrating all of logistics’ world leaders».
