Spanish cities head the list of the busiest retail streets in Europe

The Spanish cities stand out in the top 10 of this ranking, with a total of 5 streets highlighted. In 6th place, is Avenida del Portal de Angel, in Barcelona, with 10,216 pedestrians per hour, and in 7th the Passeig de Gracia, with 10,132, followed by Gran Vía, in Madrid, in the 8th place, with 9,956 pedestrians. Calle Fuencamal, also in the Spanish capital, closes the top 10 with 9,196 pedestrians per hour.

The ranking is led by Oxford Street, with 13,560 pedestrians per hour, followed by Kaufingerstrasse in Munich. Zeil Street, in Frankfurt, is in 4th place, and the Champs-Elysees in Paris occupy the 5th position.

According to the report, released in Portugal by Worx, these streets are seen as emblematic business cards, with a high degree of tourist activity. Tourism is, too, “one of the main drivers of footfall”. Public transport and urban renewal also play an important role in these footfall results, as they create an “improved shopping environment”, but also “rejuvenate the market by attracting new entrants and investors”, a recent influence seen in Warsaw, Vienna or Lisbon.

However, if we look at the European luxury arteries, Champs-Elysees dominate it with 10,277 pedestrians per hour, followed by Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona with 10,132 and Regent Street in London with 9,252 pedestrians. Madrid appears again on the top 20 in the 17th place, with Calle Serrano registering 2.194 pedestrians per hour.
