The Spain Real Estate Summit is set to return to La Finca UZalacaín in Madrid on May 6th and 7th, 2025, bringing together over 350 global leaders and investors to discuss Spain’s position as a premier investment destination and the opportunities shaping the future of its real estate market. Organized by Iberian Property in collaboration with CBRE and JLL, the Summit is a key platform for industry stakeholders to analyze economic trends, market cycles, and the strategic priorities driving growth in this dynamic sector.
Following the keynote session by Blackstone Head of Real Estate Europe, Mr. James Seppala, a “Financier’s View of Real Estate”, the first day of the event will also provide insights on the current world balance, hosting for the effect a keynote session by José Manuel Durão Barroso, Prime Minister of Portugal (2002/2004) and President of the European Commission for two terms (2004/2009 and 2009/2014).
Mr. Durão Barroso will share his perspective on the geopolitical and social challenges at stake, in a session that will be introduced and moderated by Enrique Losantos, Head of Capital Markets Southern Europe and CEO in Spain of JLL. To further explore the view of the world, Dr. Brian Wong, Fellow, Centre on Contemporary China and the World, University of Hong Kong, will share the oriental view on the global forces conditioning the world balance.
Dr. Brian Wong is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong. His research examines the ethics and dynamics of authoritarian regimes and their foreign policies, historical and colonial injustices, and the intersection of geopolitics, political and moral philosophy, and technology.
A Rhodes Scholar (2020) and Kwok Scholar, Brian holds a DPhil in Politics from Balliol College; MPhil in Political Theory (Distinction) from Wolfson College, and an MA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (Double First Class, 9th out of 240) from Pembroke College, University of Oxford. Brian has taught modules in politics to undergraduate students at Oxford and Stanford Universities, and spoken at conferences at Harvard-Sciences Po, LSE, Carnegie-Tsinghua, Stanford, Tufts, and briefs MNCs, hedge funds, and family offices and investors on macro risks in Asia.
Brian co-founded and now advises Oxford Political Review, a publication aspiring to bridge the theory-practice gap. As a columnist at the Hong Kong Economic Journal and Editor-at-Large for ThriveGlobal, he contributes regularly to publications such as TIME, Foreign Policy, Aeon, Financial Times, Diplomat, Fortune, SCMP, Nikkei, Japan Times, the US-Asia Law Institute, E-IR, Institute of Art and Ideas, USCN Perception Monitor, Neican, and The Hindu, having also presented and written on issues of public philosophy for the Journal of Practical Ethics, the American Philosophical Association, and the Royal Institute of Philosophy. Brian's comments have been featured on The Atlantic, Nikkei, Al-Jazeera, and POLITICO.
Brian currently serves as a Fellow and Advisor on Strategy at the Oxford Global Society, an independent Oxford-based think-tank. He is also a Fellow at the Centre on Contemporary China and the World, a Founding Fellow and then Board Member of Governance Partners Yangon (Asia), and the Founding Secretary of Citizen Action Design Ltd., a youth policy think-tank based in Hong Kong.
